SIN

Sin is deceptive, it either takes you by softy softy bit by bit deception or it tries to bull doze itself into your life. It could be your sin or exposure to other people sin which causes distortion. If you live in sin like Romans 8 says the end result from walking in sin is DEATH. As a christian sin is your enemy, it makes you weak, it exposes you to the enemy, make you defenseless. I strips you of honour and God's place of protection. It influence your heart and mind and uses other people around you to influence you. It takes away your freedom to choose.

Sin can be 'transgression' - where you 'transgress' against God by doing something wrong. Iniquity is more a deep seated sin which is in the heart of man

Transgression

Psalm 32:5, the psalmist says, “I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.’”

Iniquity

“Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin” (Psalm 51:2).

Holiness is a gift from God

Holiness is the opposite as sin.

God's holiness is our standard for holy living. In I Peter 1:15, TLB. "But be holy now in everything you do, just as the Lord is holy, who invited you to be His child. "

God's holiness cannot tolerate sin. In Isaiah 59:2, NIV. "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. "

Holiness is a gift of God's grace. In Exodus 19:5-6, TLB. "Now if you will obey Me and keep your part of My contract with you, you shall be My own little flock from among all the nations of the earth; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be a kingdom of priests to God, a holy nation. "

Holiness grows in response to God's Word. In John 17:17, NIV. "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. "

'Lord do I really fear you?'

One very good reason to fear God, (holy reverence, respect fear, not 'bad' fear) is it keeps us from sin. Fearing the Lord comes with a list of benefits

Psalm 112

12 Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in theLord.

His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.

10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Psalm 128

128 Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.

For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.

The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.
